a new post! it's a miracle!

sorry folks, life got in the way... (i.e. a new baby) but i'll try to be better!

anyway, i feel like such a dweeb because the whole week i've been absolutely GIDDY about finding this turquoise cooler for $5!

isn't it cute?!

i can't wait to fill it with some ice and some fun colored soda bottles, have some friends over and fire up the grill!

my poor 9 month pregnant back couldn't take our plastic ikea computer chairs much longer, so it was a nothing short of a miracle when i found these two mid-century chairs for $4 each! {'mad men' anyone?}

they're in great shape but i'm hoping to reupholster them sometime down the road!

i've got baby #4 on the way soon and since my other little one is still in a crib (and will be for about another year), i had to find some bedding for another one!

as i've mentioned before, the salvation army sells brand new 'target' items and i was able to score this crib skirt for only $1!

i also found this crib bumper for only $2.25. which was a great find since i can't sew and i would have had to bribe my seamstress (a.k.a. my mother) to make one for me!

wow i can't believe it's been so long since i posted on here!

i've been buying things up like crazy at the thrift stores the last couple of months so check back often and hopefully i'll get lots of my finds up here soon!

anyway, last week i went to the salvation army which is kind of rare for me since it's about a half an hour drive. i don't know about out of state, but here in the salt lake valley all of the salvation army stores carry a lot of brand new 'target' brand items. remember my beloved chair?

so this time when i went they had TONS of shoes! i got these great boots for my 5 year old daughter with the tags still on them for $3.25 a pair! these boots normally retail for $17.99 a pair!

i'm definitely going to have to start making the trip there more often!

i've also been wanting to show off some of these cute items i bought for my 3 year old.

these brown velvet flats were bought from a church consignment sale that i go to twice a year. i believe i paid $5 for them!

and finally, i found this fun little coat at the d.i. for $3!

i think it will be perfect for fall!

my original plan for this cute side table was to sand it and re-stain it a dark brown to match the rest of my living room furniture, but unfortunately it just wasn't working, so i decided to just paint it white.

i haven't found a spot for them yet! i'm thinking maybe the front porch, but i'm afraid the snow will ruin them.

i love this time of the year at the thrift stores, because this is the time that people are buying new holiday decorations and donating their old ones! i've bought a bunch of fun things that i will be posting over the next couple of days!'

for some reason i'm a huge sucker for orange and blue. i've had a tree with blue toned ornaments for the last 7 years and have been wanting to change it up, so i was super excited when i found these fun retro orange ornaments for only 50 cents a box! i think they look awesome with my blue!

i also grabbed these fun green felt ornaments. i thought they were too cute to pass up!

now, there are a few things i don't ever really purchase from a thrift store... and i would usually put pillows on that list of things, BUT i saw these nice copper pillows and had to have them. i'm pretty sure they've never been used since they still had the original store's price tag still on them!

they look great with my cheapo target rug down in the basement!

i found SO many great things today at the d.i.!

i thought this stand was pretty cute. i'm thinking it will be great for easter to put some fun eggs in it, but i'm also thinking of spray painting it, (maybe black?) so that i can use it more year-round.

while i was out shopping on saturday, i found a really fun blue chair at the d.i. for $15 that had a great shape but the fabric wasn't in the best condition and i left wondering if i should have just bought it and worked on it.

well, i decided to stop at the salvation army which was the next block down from the d.i. and i'm so glad i did! i found this BRAND NEW upholstered chair for $50 which was WAY more than i wanted to spend, but since it was a little wobbly (nothing the handy husband can't fix) i talked them down to $30!

it goes so well with everything else in my living room! i LOVE it!

for some reason i seem to gravitate toward fun colored tins and i just love the colors of both this bundt cake pan and flan mold.

the flan mold also came with a recipe! pretty sure i won't be making flan anytime soon, but you can bet i'll find something fun to make in it!

i saw these cute flats back when i was pregnant and i LOVED them. however, they were a little tight and had some black scuff marks on them so i passed.

well, basically they haunted me for days and i decided i had to go back and snatch them up!

i got on the internet and found that a q-tip dipped in nail polish remover gets rid of scuff marks, and by-golly it did! AND i forgot how much your feet swell when you're pregnant and since i've had my baby they fit perfectly!

i bought this high chair a while back and had stained it a dark brown to match my table and chairs. however, it was a really crappy stain job and after a couple of months of my two year old using it, it was looking really gross, so i sanded the stain off and painted it with some leftover orange paint i had lying around!

despite being pregnant with my first boy, i really haven't been too excited about shopping for clothes for him, because well, let's face it... boy's clothes just aren't as fun to shop for as girls'.

i found this clock yesterday for two bucks (for some reason i have a "thing" for clocks) but alas, i forgot to take a "before" picture. it was pretty ugly, trust me. so my awesome husband spray-painted it black for me and now it's hanging beautifully in my office!

i bought this vessel sink a while back, and it is definitely my favorite thrift store find to date. i found it while we were still living in our townhome, but for $5 i KNEW i couldn't pass it up and figured we could put it in a future house.

once we bought our current house i was so excited to finally be able to put it in a bathroom. the first picture is of how the bathroom looked when we moved in and the rest are "after" pics!

i found this cute wooden baby doll high chair the other day and fell in love with it. beside the fact that it was a bit dirty, it was in great shape.

so after a thorough cleaning of bleach and water and a fresh coat of pink paint, it now fits in perfectly with the rest of the girls' playroom furniture!

i went on quite the discount shopping spree today! i found tons of fun stuff, but i think i'll span my purchases throughout several posts.

first, i bought this pretty white vase and decided my orchid would look fab in it!

also, my sister-in-law darby, bought a bunch of cute skirts from a thrift store a while back, and until then, i had never thought to look for clothes at a thrift store. but, i too found some awesome skirts today! i love the nautical look of the first one and the stitching detail of the second one!

i found this mini adirondack chair a couple of weeks ago, but i finally had some time this weekend to work on it. it was originally a navy blue color, and the paint was on pretty thick, so i sanded it lightly and painted it black. super easy!

welcome to thrift store gal! for my first post, i thought i'd share a couple of my favorite finds to date. the first is this clock that i found at a local thrift store a few years back. it was originally brown and gold, but with some black and silver paint, and the steady hand of my husband it ended up looking gorgeous! love the retro look of it!

next, this beautiful chair was found a couple of weeks ago for only $15! i sanded and stained the arms and legs, which were originally painted a light brown and gave the upholstery a good cleaning. the best part of this chair...it's a ROCKING CHAIR! love it!
